HP Spectre – The Reigning World’s Thinnest Laptop

At just 10.4mm thin, the HP Spectre laptop is the thinnest 13.3” notebook in the market today. This makes it flimsier than the reigning 13-inch MacBook Air. The classy computer sheen takes the Spectre into a whole new dimension of appeal, making it look more of jewelry than it is of a gadget.thinnest laptop

Spectre’s innards are as imposing as its outward appearance. It packs a capable Intel Core i5 (or i7 for better performance,) PCIe-based SSD in the place of a hard disk, a full-size keyboard and an advanced audio system from Bang & Olufsen.

HP used a couple of advanced manufacturing techniques to achieve such thinness. The aluminum chassis, for instance, is CNC machined and every component of the notebook is closely packed to save on space.

The thinness means that maintenance, upgrading and servicing is unheard of. If anything goes wrong in your HP Spectre, you will have no option but to dispose the entire piece.

A Custom Screen and Impressive Battery Life.

A Thin Screen for the Thinnest Laptop

The screen is a custom full HD piece designed to be lightweight and flimsy before topping it with Gorilla Glass 4 for extra versatility. The IPS panel boast of a 1920×1080 resolution and is a mere 2 mm thick.

With little or no space to pack the batteries, HP had to come up with an innovative solution to let the notebook’s battery life kiss the coveted 8 hours+ mark.

The designers use two batteries that give the Spectre a total of four cells. This is sufficient for something without a mechanical hard disk or power-hungry components.

While HP didn’t disclose too much about the technology it uses to cool the processors, there is every reason to believe that at least two ultra-thin fans and a heat-pipe will link the processor to a minimalistic copper radiator.

Specs and Performance Details

You will get 8GB of RAM soldered to the motherboard (no room for upgrades) and 256GB or 512GB of SSD storage. The tiny size of the notebook will force you to buy the right storage since there is no way to do custom upgrades from home.

At the very back are USB type-C ports that will support Thunderbolt 3. Thunderbolt 3 USB type-C allows you to connect your device to compatible external displays and other Thunderbold 3 peripherals.

HP is selling the Spectre with an Intel Core i5-6200U, 8GB RAM and 256 GB SSD at $1169.99 while the Core i7-6500U, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD variant will cost you $1249.99.

  1. Overall good laptop. I have been using this laptop for three months and it really works very nice. I haven’t feel any problem regarding its performances till yet. One thing I like the most is its processor and long battery backup. You must go for it.
