After months of decision-making, NTV seems to have made up its mind; The Wicked Edition will be part of its official programming schedule starting November 8, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. The first edition of this witty and hilarious piece by Dr. King’ori, which will now be featuring the one and only Kinyanjui, aired back on June 3, 2016 within theTrend.
With the decision to have The Wicked Edition as an independent program, let’s hope that NTV is on the right track. That is the case given the fact that the Kenyan mainstream media has come under scrutiny with accusations of airing sub-standard and foreign content that adds little or no value to Kenyans.
In addition, a sizable number of viewers would consider Dr. King’ori’s weekly dose of witty comedy as a nice break from the longest running comedy show in East and Central Africa – The Churchill Show. At some point, there were increasing complaints from viewers regarding comedians appearing on the latter show with jokes stolen from twitter.
Thankfully, it seems the people behind the Churchill Show took the criticism positively and have been revamping it regarding its editing and graphics. In terms of directing, J Blessing is also doing a good job. However, viewers at home will still get to watch a heavily edited show unless they attend the live shows.
We have every reason to believe that The Wicked Edition will finally content viewers in need of local, but witty and high standard jokes based on the highly positive feedback it got from viewers back in June. If that happens, more Kenyans, especially those in Nairobi, will soon start switching back to Local TV.
On the other hand, if Dr. King’ori and Kinyajui’s show does not live up to the expectations, it will be reasonable for people to continue seeking for their daily dose of comedy from shows hosted by the likes Seth Meyers, John Oliver, Trevor Noah, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, and Jimmy Fallon.
